Salt is the usual answer this close to the Broadwater. It attacks the sacrificial anode inside the cylinder as well as external copper and brass, so units fail years before their rated life. The practical response is to have the anode checked well before the tank leaks, because replacing an anode is a service and replacing a leaking tank is not.
