Salt, almost always, this close to the Broadwater. It attacks copper, brass and the anode inside your hot water cylinder, so components fail years before their rated life. The practical response is to have the anode checked well before the tank leaks, because replacing an anode is a service and replacing a leaking tank is not. This covers the warning signs, and hot water repairs are same-day where we can manage it.
It is, mostly because everything outside is exposed to salt continuously rather than occasionally. Outdoor taps, hose fittings, pontoon and jetty services, and any pump or irrigation gear corrode noticeably faster than the equivalent inland, and fittings that were specified without that in mind fail early. Where we replace outdoor components we will specify materials suited to the environment rather than simply matching what came out.
