Do the meter test before calling anyone. Turn off every tap, appliance and irrigation line, photograph the meter including the red dials, wait an hour using no water at all, then read it again. If it has moved, the leak is on your side. On a large block the visual clues are usually nowhere near the actual break, so the meter is far more reliable than walking the paddock.
